McCalls Quilting July/Aug 2020
I have a quilt in McCall's Quilting. They named the quilt Vernal.
This is a bright and happy wall quilt 39" x 39" It incorporates large and small Monkey Wrench blocks in bright Island Batik fabrics. The bright fabrics are from the Garden Party Collection and it has Island Batik white basic for the background. The quilting was done with a variety of bright Sulky Cotton and Cotton and Steel threads that show up nicely against the white background.

The Ultimate Decor Blog Hop with Island Batik
It's May and time for another great Island Batik Ambassador Blog Hop. The theme of this Hop is called The Ultimate Decor Blog Hop.
Here are my decor projects.
The fabrics for this project were packaged as Surprise Fabrics in the first Ambassador box this year, and were not to be used or shown until this blog hop. I can finally show them to you now. The fabrics are called Nordic Nature designed by Kathy Engle and are just now shipping to stores.
These fabrics are a beautiful blend of winter, Christmas colors. It was a challenge to think of a winter home dec project in early spring - did you notice the daffodils in the top photo that I didn't manage to hide? I finally decided on a table runner and set of matching place mats.
There were only three reds in this collection and I wanted to draw that color out. By using the dark red for the binding it draws the color out from the center section. The variety of green prints were fun to work with.
I used 15 of the 20 fabrics in the collection .
I used Hobbs Cotton batting and Schmetz Chrome needles in making the project. Both are Sponsors who donated thru the Island Batik Ambassador program.
I used Westalee rulers in the quilting.
Aurifil thread is also a sponsor and I used two of their threads in the quilting. Red is #2260 in 40 weight, and the tan is #6730 in 50 weight.
The tan actually doesn't look like a good match, but it is a wonderful thread that I find blends with many fabrics. One of my favorites.
The table runner is 17" x 30 3/4" and place mats are 17" x 12"
I was still thinking about Christmas and home dec projects and decided to try a couple little fabric boxes with two more of the fabrics. I had been wanting to try some fabric boxes and had seen some on the internet to try- there are a lot of designs out there. They are fun to make.
I made the little one first and made a mistake in that I wanted the checkerboard fabric to be on the points and I had it turned the wrong way. It's still nice, just not what I was aiming for. I made the larger box with the checkerboard as the border trim like I wanted it. The larger box holds folded fat quarters nicely.
Fabric boxes would be nice to give as gifts. If you start now- you could have several made by Christmas!
After these projects I had three fabrics left in the collection that I didn't use. I'm offering all three as a prize drawing. These are all half yard cuts.
Just leave a comment about what your favorite home dec projects are to make. USA entries only due to shipping costs. I'll be drawing a winner thru Random.org at the end of the Blog Hop.
Be sure to visit Island Batik's blog to enter their beautiful fabric drawing for the beautiful Cascadia precuts. I LOVE this collection and I know you will too!
Check the list of Island Batik Ambassadors below to see who is posting each day. Be sure to check in and see the new fabrics and what they all are creating. There will be lots of drawings also. Enjoy!
